Career Synopsis


Dr Leisa Freeman  qualified at University of Birmingham Medical School. Her general medicine training was at  University College Hospital London and then she trained in cardiology at Charing Cross  Hospital and The National Heart Hospital, London.  She came to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in 1991. She established the first clinic for grown up congenital heart disease (GUCH) at NNUH in 1993. There are now more than 1000 patients with GUCH supervised in Norwich.  She became clinical director of Cardiology in 2005 and has expanded the services and personal significantly in this time to include ICD, CRT, PCI, pulmonary hypertension, at risk pregnancy services.  She has published extensively in peer review journals, chapters in national textbooks and a self help book for patients and relatives called ‘Your Heart and You’ based on her research on emotion stress and the heart (undertaken when she was at Charing Cross Hospital). She is an experienced consultant cardiologist seeing patients at the Norfolk and Norwich University NHS Hospital and at SPIRE hospital Norwich.  She has performed thousands of coronary angiograms and cardiac catheterizations.  

She has raised, with others, 1 million  pounds for ‘Balloons4Hearts’ a charity under the umbrella of the Norfolk Heart Trust to provide a second angiography suite to enable PCI (balloong angioplasty and stenting) to occur in Norwich rather than having to travel to Papworth in Cambridgeshire.

She undertakes medicolegal work.
